I had much difficulty today with the shot I originally wanted to do. I was on the floor in the kitchen where I do a lot of my shots and something I was using, either the floor itself, paper, or clear plastic for reflection wasn't perfectly level and I couldn't keep my marbles from rolling away on me! So I went just for the paper for more grippage (is that even a word?) and it wasn't working so I grouped them together to stay! Stay marbles, stay! Good marbles! I also didn't realize how different the right front marble is from all the others until too late :( So that is how I came up with todays shot. I think I'll need to find a surface to keep them from rolling away...
Is it difficult photographing marbles? I tried it once and had no luck. You seem to be doing quite well - care to share your settings with me?

No, it's not preticularly difficult. The only difficulty I have keeping them in one spot without rolling away.
ReplyDeleteThis one is using natural light next to a big glass door with snow on the ground and the sun shining bright.
50mm f1.8 lens - manual control
shutter speed: 1/640 sec.
aperture: f2.2
iso: 200
Really beautiful. I love how they fade away as they get farther from the camera.
ReplyDeleteExcellent! I quite like the different one at the right. I also like the shallow DoF to get that soft receding feeling behind. Very nice work. Watch, by day 8 or 9 you will have this down pat, and all your marbles will stay in a line for you. You can learn to control your subject with a whip, you know! ;-)
ReplyDeleteWhat naughty marbles! You did well though and this is a lovely shot especially the way they fade into the distance.
ReplyDeleteBilliards, anyone? I love the soft light and colors in this one. Nice!
ReplyDeleteI love that oddball marble on the right - he immediately drew my eye - I'm guessing he was the trouble-maker who persuaded all the others to misbehave ;-)
ReplyDeleteanother beautiful shot! How about a bit of double sided tape on the bottom to keep them in place?
ReplyDeleteI love how the colours fade to lighter shades.
ReplyDeleteHow about a campingtable with adjustable legs? That is what I use to level the surface.
That's the trouble with round things! Very well lit shot
ReplyDeleteIt does look like you were stetting up a pool shot...and the soft fade is very nice.

Great colours and lighting, you are onm a roll with these.
ReplyDeleteNice use of DoF here.
ReplyDeleteAll we have to wait for now is when the cue ball hits the other marbles.
Well done.
These marbles look like thet are lining up for their photographs, I remember your snow shots from last year. Now the snow is helping in other ways.
ReplyDeleteI'm loving your shots. I want to go out and buy myself marbles and try this. So beautiful, perfect lighting
