Day Thirteen

I had received a few suggestions about smashed marbles.  I decided to give it a shot today.  Made sure to pick out an ugly marble that I wouldn't mind losing.  I grabbed a hammer and a towel and tried to smash it, all it did was roll away.  So I went to some concrete and hammered it and after a couple tries it finally broke.  Marbles are just like any other glass - they smash into a bunch of small shards :)  There really wasn't much to do with just the shards so I made a pile and stuck on another marble.

  1. Noooooo! I didn't mean it!! SOB.

Seriously though, this is a lovely shot and works very well indeed especially with the black background. And your lighting is great.

  2. Awesome lighting and a fantastic shot. It's hard to know that's a broken marble, so I thought it was that silica gel or something like that. But now I know it's a marble, it's like he is standing on the grave of one. I hope he's not too sad.

Gorgous colours and a very effective result. Well done.

  4. Eury: Just a simple little LED flashlight pretty much laying flat slightly to the left and about a foot away. I was pretty impressed that it lit this so nicely without hitting the background.

  5. Oh no! Poor little chap!! ;-)

This is just gorgeous - quite poignantly so, now that we know the story! And beautifully lit!

  6. Ahhh, now you can't say anymore that no marbles have been hurt while taking this series.

It does however pay off to smash one because the glass below the marble does have some nice sparkles and colors in there.

  7. I think it works great and the marble looks like a phoenix rising from its shards.
